Port Louis, Mauritius (Capital Markets in Africa) — The bearish mood backed to the Stock Exchange of Mauritius after just one day in the bullish zone. The equity market capitalization slumped by MUR 309 million (US$4.8 million) to close at MUR 219.027 billion relative to previous market capitalization of MUR 219.336 billion.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) went down by 0.14 percent or 2.77 points to close at 1,966.82 points. SEM10 index ended at 376.20 points after dropping 0.72 points or 0.19 percent.
The overall total volume trade ended at 4.930 million (a gain relative to volume of 919,446 recorded on previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 63.035 million (an increase relative to MUR 30.112 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings recorded 4.040 million (about 82 percent of total volume) at MUR 3.489 million and Rogers & Co Limited registered 198,600 traded stocks amounted to MUR 5.158 million. MCB Group had 155,134 stocks at MUR 33.678 million and Cauda Development Limited recorded a total volume of 78,485 shares at MUR 102,885. Mauritius Union Assurance also recorded 63,300 shares at MUR 4.558 million.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, among the 29 traded securities there were 7 price advancers and 7 price decliners as well as 15 remained unchanged. The price gainers were New Mauritius Holdings (Preference) grew by 1.34 percent to end at MUR 11.35 and Bluelife Limited closed at MUR 4.28 after gaining 0.94 percent. Terra Mauricia Limited also surged by 0.85 percent to end at MUR 29.75 and New Mauritius Holdings climbed by 0.54 percent to settle at MUR 18.70. Lux Island Resorts Limited also jumped by 0.40 percent to end at MUR 63.50.
On the contrary, the loser was Caudan Development Limited with a price reduction of 2.26 percent to trade at MUR 1.30. Rogers & Co Limited sagged by 1.90 percent to conclude at MUR 31.00 and ENL Land Limited fell by 0.98 percent to end at MUR 50.50. ENL Commercial settled at MUR 20.35 after sliding by MUR 0.15 or 0.73 percent.
The DEMEX index ended at 206.48 points after adding 0.29 points or 0.14 percent. The market capitalization rose by MUR 69 million to close at MUR 49,073 (relative to MUR 49,004 billion recorded previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 8.989 million exchanged in 116,412 traded securities. Southern Cross Limited sagged by 2.80 percent to end at MUR 6.26 and ENL Limited (P) closed at MUR 29.80 by losing 0.67 percent. Whereas EUDCOS and Constance Hotel surged by 3.29 percent and 0.82 percent to settle at MUR 15.70 and MUR 36.80 respectively.
